Unlike most sea turtles, the flatback turtle stays within a small range throughout its life cycle. Rarely going beyond the Australian continental shelf, this carnivorous anmal feeds on sea cucumbers, soft corals, jellyfish and others sea inhabitants. Nesting by day of night , the flatback lays its relatively large eggs, usually fewer than 50, on mailand and island beaches.
When going ashore, adults sometimes can't help being prey to giant crocodiles, These distinctive sea turtles are vulnerable due to their restricted range, and also to incidental capture in peawn trawls.
